Introduction:
Reading comprehension (RC) is an important part of SSC English exams. It tests understanding, interpretation, and analytical skills.


1. Types of Passages

  1. Factual: Provides information or facts.

  2. Descriptive: Describes events, objects, or people.

  3. Narrative: Tells a story or sequence of events.

  4. Discursive/Argumentative: Presents arguments or opinions.


2. Common Question Types

  • Main Idea: What is the passage mainly about?

  • Inference: What can be inferred from the passage?

  • Vocabulary in Context: Meaning of a word/phrase in the passage.

  • True/False/Not Given: Identify statements that are correct, incorrect, or not mentioned.

  • Summary/Fill in the Blanks: Complete sentences based on passage information.


3. Tips for SSC Exams
