Lesson 2.5: Entering Data and Formatting Cells in Excel
🔹 Entering Data:
You can enter three types of data into Excel cells:

Text – e.g., Names, Departments
-
Numbers – e.g., 1500, 95.75
-
Dates – e.g., 06/08/2025
Steps:
-
Click on a cell.
-
Type the data.
-
Press Enter to move to the next cell below.
🔸 Editing Data:
-
Double-click on a cell to edit.
-
Or select the cell and edit in the Formula Bar.

Press Backspace or Delete to remove data.
🔹 Formatting Cells:
You can change the appearance of your data for clarity and professionalism.
| Format Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Font Style & Size | Change text look (bold, italic, underline). |
| Cell Color (Fill) | Add background color to a cell. |
| Text Color | Change font color. |
| Number Format | Set data type: General, Currency, Date, etc. |
| Alignment | Align text left, center, or right. |
| Borders | Add lines around cells. |
Steps to Format:

Select cell(s).

Go to the Home tab.

Use formatting tools from the ribbon.
📝 Practice Task:
-
Enter 5 student names and their marks in Excel.
-
Change the font to Calibri, size 12, and make it bold.

Color the header row with light blue.
-
Use borders to make a clean table.
-
Format marks column as Number with no decimal places.
