Lesson 2.1: Introduction to MS Word and Its Interface

🔹 What is MS Word?

Microsoft Word is a word processing software developed by Microsoft. It is used to create, edit, format, and print documents like letters, resumes, reports, and notices. MS Word is an essential tool in offices, schools, and business environments.


🔸 Key Uses of MS Word:

  • Creating professional documents

  • Formatting text and paragraphs

  • Adding tables, images, and charts

  • Creating letters, applications, invoices

  • Printing or saving documents as PDF


🔹 Starting MS Word:

To open MS Word:

  1. Click on Start Menu

  2. Type “Word” and click on the Word icon

  3. Choose Blank Document or a template


🔸 MS Word Interface Overview:

Interface Element Description
Title Bar Shows the name of your file and Word application.
Ribbon Contains tabs like Home, Insert, Page Layout, etc., with related tools.
Quick Access Toolbar Small toolbar at top-left for Save, Undo, Redo.
Document Area The blank area where you type your content.
Status Bar Located at the bottom – shows page number, word count, language, etc.
Scroll Bar To move up/down or left/right in the document.
