Lesson 1.2: Basic Components of a Computer (Input, Output, Processing)
🔹 What Are Computer Components?
A computer system is made up of different physical parts called hardware components, which work together to perform various tasks. These components are generally divided into three categories:
-
Input Devices
-
Processing Unit
-
Output Devices
🔹 1. Input Devices
Input devices are used to enter data and commands into the computer.
| Input Device | Function |
|---|---|
| Keyboard | Used to type text and commands |
| Mouse | Used to point, click, and select items on the screen |
| Scanner | Converts physical documents into digital format |
| Microphone | Records voice or sound |
| Webcam | Captures images and videos for online communication |
🔹 2. Central Processing Unit (CPU)
The CPU is known as the “brain of the computer”. It processes all instructions and manages the flow of data.
Major parts of CPU:
-
ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit): Performs calculations and logical operations
-
CU (Control Unit): Directs all operations in the computer
-
Registers: Store temporary data during processing
💡 The CPU is usually located inside the CPU cabinet along with the motherboard, RAM, hard drive, etc.
🔹 3. Output Devices
Output devices display or provide the results of the computer’s processing.
| Output Device | Function |
|---|---|
| Monitor | Displays text, images, and videos (visual output) |
| Printer | Provides printed output on paper |
| Speakers | Produce audio output (sound/music) |
| Projector | Displays content on a large screen (used in classrooms/offices) |
🔹 Simple Diagram (Text Format):
Example:
Typing with a keyboard (Input) → processed by CPU → displayed on monitor (Output)
✅ Summary:
Input devices are used to give data, the CPU processes it, and output devices show the result. Together, they form the basic structure of a computer system.
