Lesson 2.2: Desktop Interface (Taskbar, Icons, Applications)
When you turn on a computer and it finishes loading the operating system, you see the Desktop — it is the main screen where you can start working.
The desktop interface allows users to interact with the computer easily through visuals like icons, taskbar, and menus.
🖼️ 1. Icons
Icons are small pictures on the desktop that represent files, folders, or programs. You can double-click an icon to open it.
Common icons:

My Computer / This PC – to access drives and folders

Recycle Bin – stores deleted files temporarily

Folder Icons – for organizing files

Application Icons – for software like Word, Excel, Browser
📌 2. Taskbar
The taskbar is usually located at the bottom of the desktop screen. It helps you manage running applications and access tools quickly.
Main parts of the taskbar:

Start Button – to access programs, settings, and shutdown options

Search Box – to find apps, files, and settings

Pinned Applications – shortcuts to frequently used apps

System Tray / Notification Area – shows clock, volume, Wi-Fi, battery, antivirus, etc.

Running Apps Area – shows open programs; click to switch between them
🧩 3. Applications
Applications (or software programs) are used to perform specific tasks such as writing documents, browsing the web, or playing music.
To run an application:

Click the Start button → choose the application from the list

Or double-click its desktop icon

Or search using the search box
The desktop interface is designed to make computers user-friendly, so users can easily find, open, and manage files and programs.
