Lesson 1.1: Understanding Computers – The Basics
A computer is an electronic device that processes data and produces useful information. It follows a sequence of instructions, called a program, to perform specific tasks quickly and accurately.
Computers are now a part of our everyday life. From booking train tickets and paying bills online to creating documents and chatting with friends, computers help us in many ways.
A typical computer works on four basic functions:
-
Input – Receiving data (like typing on a keyboard)
-
Processing – Performing calculations or operations
-
Output – Showing results (on screen or printer)
-
Storage – Saving data for future use
Computers are used in homes, schools, offices, banks, shops, hospitals, and many other places. They improve productivity, accuracy, and efficiency.
