Lesson 2.2 – Sorting Data in Excel
Lesson Overview
Sorting in Excel means arranging your data in a specific order so it’s easier to read and analyze. You can sort by text, numbers, dates, or even custom orders (like sorting by month names or priority levels).
1. Types of Sorting in Excel
| Type | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Ascending Order | Smallest to Largest / A to Z / Oldest to Newest | Names A → Z, Prices low → high |
| Descending Order | Largest to Smallest / Z to A / Newest to Oldest | Names Z → A, Prices high → low |
| Custom Sort | Sort using your own defined order | Jan, Feb, Mar (instead of alphabetical) |
| Multi-Level Sort | Sort by more than one column | First by City, then by Name |
